PRESERVE THE MURPHY HOTEL!

DEMOLITION TO BEGIN BY AUGUST 1ST IF THE VOICE OF RICHMONDERS IS NOT HEARD!

THE FATE OF THE MURPHY HOTEL IS IN THE HANDS OF THE HOUSE AND SENATE JOINT CONFERENCE COMMITTEE AND ULTIMATELY GOVERNOR KAINE. BELOW IS A LIST OF THE CONFEREES ON THIS COMMITTEE. CLICK ON THEIR NAMES TO SEND A MESSAGE THAT THE MURPHY HOTEL CAN BE PRESERVED AND PARKING CAN STILL BE ACCOMMODATED. FEEL FREE TO
CUT & PASTE THE TEXT BELOW INTO A MESSAGE TO THE CONFEREES AND GOVERNOR KAINE.

Please contact them and remind them that: There is no need to demolish the Murphy
because the state’s needs for offices/parking can be satisfied on the vacant lot at the corner of 9th & Broad. Furthermore, on two occasions, the City of Richmond has told the state that it would like to take possession of the former hotel. This would relieve the state of the problem of what to do with the Murphy and allow the city to move forward with Mayor Wilder's exciting plan for an Urban Law Center in a renovated Murphy Hotel. Finally, last year Richmond City Council passed a resolution asking the Governor for a moratorium on demolishing state-owned landmarks, including the Murphy. Richmonders want a say in the disposition of their landmarks!
